Your County Attorney Since 2009
Prior County Attorneys have served on a part-time basis while maintaining a private law practice. I work full time and have not held a private practice
I regularly attend Commissioners' Court and provide advice and counsel to other elected officials and department heads. County Attorneys in the past have maintained this was not part of their job duties.
I believe in keeping our tax burden low. Since taking office in 2009, I have reduced the county budget for the duties of the office by over $300,000 thousand dollars, by combining departments and reducing staff.
I have mended fences and restored relationships with partner agencies of the county, that had been harmed or destroyed by prior county attorneys. I remain committed to working with our community medical providers, mental health professionals, victim's rights advocates and advocates for children that the office interfaces with regularly. Many of my office staff, including myself, have been the recipients of the Hope Award from the East Texas Crisis Center and the multidisciplinary team member of the year, awarded by the Henderson County Help Center.
I am accessible to everyone -- both those within county government and the general public. I return phone calls and will meet with anyone on any county issue whether related to my office or not. I strive to always treat people the way I want to be treated by my government officials. Everyone in my office knows that my soap box is government at any level is about public service. I remind my staff regularly that the people that we come into contact with every day as a result of our jobs are the reason we are given the title public servants. We should always strive to help anyone and everyone when we can.
I am a lifetime member of the NRA and pro second amendment. I oppose red flag laws and other measures that would place our constitutional rights in the hands of individuals to make decisions about our rights.
I believe our government at all levels is too big and that government has taken on roles and responsibilities never intended for government to be involved in.
I believe we have perverted the separation of church and state to the point the we have created an anti-religion/Christianity environment. I oppose abortion
The County Attorneys Office is one of the busiest offices in county government. The office's primary responsibilities include the prosecution of roughly 2000 misdemeanor cases each year, juvenile crimes, both felonies and misdemeanors, we represent the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS or more commonly known as CPS) in child protection cases, we are the only prosecuting attorneys that practice in all 11 courts of the County, the County Court, County Court at Law No. 1 and No. 2, District Courts, 3rd, 173rd, and 392nd, and all five Justice of the Peace Courts in the county.
In addition to our criminal and CPS prosecution, we represent the State of Texas in mental commitment hearings, and we represent Adult Protective Services in adult guardianship cases. We routinely and regularly provide advice and counsel to all other elected officials and department heads on matters that range from reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, the collection of money owed to the county, easement, right of way or other real estate related matters, human resource matters and policy and procedure matters, just to name a few. The office receives, processes and handles hundreds of public information act requests each year on behalf of various departments.
The office operates on a budget of roughly one and a half million dollars a year, the overwhelming majority of that being office salaries and benefits. The office is comprised of 16 full time employees and 3 part-time employees. Seven of those are licensed attorneys, and one is our investigator and a licensed peace officer. I am blessed to have some of the best employees in Henderson County and they truly do an amazing job representing me and the office and serving our county.
Other individual assignments that I am involved in include me serving on the county insurance committee, the county IT committee, the East Texas Council of Governments Criminal Justice Advisory Board, I have served as the Chairman of the Juvenile Board for the past three years, I am the county Public Information Officer in the event of an emergency or disaster, and I attend the County Commissioners' Court regularly.

Holding public office at any level requires a lot of time, effort and money in campaigns. I always appreciate those that give and that can support me in this way and appreciate any amount.
